You would think that reviewing a sweater during summer would be a silly thing to do, until you think of all the times that it comes in handy. Rainy days, chilly mornings sipping tea, sitting around a campfire or a late night paddle all call for a sweater.
I didn't set out to purchase a sweater at first. When seeing the Beaver Canoe display at the Roots on Queen Street in Toronto, I instantly became reminiscent of my childhood and when I got home I went online to find that eye-catching sweater.
To be honest, I wasn't sure at first if the sweater online was the one I had seen in the store. Recalling its unique look, I felt the online photos didn't do it justice. Since I don't have a nearby Roots store (Beaver Canoe are not sold at Roots 72 stores) I decided to order it online. Much to my surprise it arrived within a matter of a few days and it was packaged in a fully biodegradable bag.
Right away you'll notice how soft it is and the blue overdying which sets it apart from others. The chest of the hoodie (called the Kanga by Roots) is emblazoned with a velvety traditional Beaver Canoe logo and Omer Stringer's name.
There are numerous features that Roots added such as the throw back paddling club logo on the top of the hood (representing Roots Canoeing), Beaver Canoe stamped eyelets and leather tipped draw strings.
The very soft "kanga" pouch is welcoming for your cold hands and although it isn't a thick fleece, it is perfect as that Summer go-to piece of clothing that you can grab as you go out the door.
The cuffs are not too tight nor do they let the sleeve fall down your arm all of the time.
I think this sweater was well worth the money and am very happy with this purchase.
The Beaver Canoe Over-Dyed Kanga is available in Federal Blue Pepper and Grey Pepper. The suggested retail price is $78.
