Paddling with Kids: Risks and Rewards

Enjoy a screening of the award-winning and inspirational CackleTV film, Dougie Down the Pet, a warm story of a father (Scott MacGregor, Founder and Publisher at Rapid Media) and son on a whitewater canoeing adventure in Algonquin Park. But be ready, this film leaves audiences split: Is MacGregor a great father, or is he crazy putting little Dougie at unnecessary risk? Why does he run class III rapids with his four-year-old son? On the other hand, what are the risks of not taking our children outdoors? 

MacGregor speaks both as an outdoorsy parent and editor-in-chief of leading national paddling magazines. Expect a hearty discussion and the sharing of ideas and practical strategies.

Scott MacGregor (HBOR, BA Geo, B Ed) is the founder and publisher of Rapid Media, the world’s most innovative paddlesports media company. Since ’99, MacGregor has launched Rapid, Adventure Kayak, Canoeroots and Kayak Angler magazines. In 2006, he created the Reel Paddling Film Festival, an international paddling film festival now screening in 100 cities around the world. Rapid Media is based in Palmer Rapids, Ontario just above the high-water mark of the Madawaska River where he lives with his wife Tanya and two children, Doug and Kate.
