Helle Announces 2024 Limited Edition Knife "Audun"
Every year Helle releases a special edition knife that offers some special features or is unique in some way. This year’s special edition is the Audun, named after its designer, Audun Erikstad. Last year he had worked for 50 years at Helle, and for the past 30 he has been running the handlemaking department.
Helle has meant a lot to Audun, and Audun has indeed meant a lot to Helle. This year’s limited edition knife is therefore in honor of him. Audun has made his own favorite knife, based on over 50 years of knowledge and skills.
“I have worked with knives at Helle for over 50 years. If I am not happy with a knife’s line, you can just put the knife away. The line of the knife is the key to a quality knife design. That, and of course the grip must feel right when holding it”
The result is in many close to the essence of a Helle knife, combining old traditions with new ideas. Audun describes the design process in his own words:
At first, I designed a quite different knife. But when I used it and held it in my hand, it was not the right one. I therefore had to start the process all over again, and this time I chose to use traditional methods and old knife knowledge when designing and choosing the materials. I told myself, ‘You have to think differently – go back to your roots’. This knife gives you associations to a bonfire and flames – just look at the colors and smell the handle
