Mountain Equipment Co-Op Opens Their First Urban Boutique
Mountain Equipment Co-Op have opened their first urban boutique in Canada. Selling only activewear, the new store in Plateau-Mont-Royal, rue Saint-Denis in Montreal is geared towards an urban consumer.
“Our business strategy evolves with the lifestyle, physical activities and clothing trends of the population,” explainsMr. Patrick Tremblay, MEC’s regional director for eastern Canada. “Research shows that 7 out of 10 of our members pursue sporting activities close to home, as well as in the backcountry. Since they wish to stay active in the city, members have expressed their need for more urban and stylized technical clothing. They want ready-to-wear that can be worn before, during and after their sporting activities. Because Quebeckers and Montrealers in particular are at the forefront of this phenomenon, the Plateau was the obvious choice for MEC to implement and test this new concept.”
