Lower Trent Conservation is Showing Movies in the Park
The Lower Trent Conservation is holding Movies in the Park at the Proctor Park Conservation Area near Brighton on the 10th and 17th at 9 p.m.
Don't forget to bring your own lawn chair. There will be free popcorn, snowcones and refreshments. Donations are welcome and go towards improving the conservation.
On the 10th, they will show...
- The Sweater: This short film, based on the book The Hockey Sweater, follows a young Quebec boy who has outgrown his favourite Montreal Canadiens sweater. When his mother orders a Toronto Maple Leaf jersey he has to show up at the neighbourhood rink in the blue and white colours of the arch-enemy! (10min)
- Finding Farley: Husband-and-wife team Karsten Heuer and Leanne Allison, along with their 2-year old son and dog, retrace the literary footsteps of Canadian writer Farley Mowat. Their epic 5000 km journey – trekking, sailing, portaging and paddling - ends in the Maritimes, at Mowat’s Nova Scotian summer home (63 min)
On the 17th, they will show...
- The Log Diver's Waltz: This lighthearted, animated short is based on the song "The Log Driver's Waltz" by Wade Hemsworth. Easily one of the most often-requested films in the NFB collection, Kate and Anna McGarrigle sing along to the tale of a young girl who loves to dance and chooses to marry a log driver over his more well-to-do competitor. Driving logs down the river has made the young man the best dancing partner to be found. (3 min)
- Force of Nature: In Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie the iconic scientist’s “last lecture” is intercut with emotional scenes that trace his life’s journey, from an internment camp in British Columbia and the swamps of small-town Ontario to a memorial ceremony in Hiroshima and the CBC studios, where for decades he has created his much-loved, award-winning TV show, The Nature of Things with David Suzuki. The film encourages the examination of world events in relation to oneself and one another, as well as our interconnections with nature. (93 min)
