Why Did The Snail Cross The Road?

While leaving bright and early after a night of camping at Bronte Creek Provincial Park, I noticed what looks to be a Banded Wood Snail crossing the road. Then after looking a few feet away, I noticed another... and then another! There had to be 20 or so of these snails, all working their way North across the entrance of the park. A few were unsuccessful in their attempt, but that didn't sway their determination.
