It's not just around a campfire that you get a chance to swap canoeing stories. We were just admiring how many people we've met coming home from canoe trips. Spotting someone with a canoe on their roof is the perfect excuse to strike up a conversation with another canoeist. It's always an entertaining discussion of where you've been, what blunders you've faced along the way, and fascinating bits of nature you saw while you were getting away from it all.

We bumped into a delightful canoeist who was marvelling that we had similar canoes and she was wearing these great paddle earrings. You never know who you're going to meet, on or off the portage!
