Gear Review: Merrell Polarand 8 Waterproof Boot

Gear Review: Merrell Polarand 8 Waterproof Boot

I'm sure you've heard it numerous times before. It probably originated with your mother and is still prevalent today while reading articles here on Trail Swag. To enjoy Winter adventures, layering is key. Even after all that layering you probably neglect one last part of your body without giving it a second thought. Your feet.

The Merrell Polarand 8 Waterproof Boot (also available in a Women's style) is the perfect Winter boot to protect your poor feet and keep you outside longer. From the 1.5mm thick waterproof leather upper to the M Select ICE GRIP sole, these boots were the all-in-one Winter footwear that I was looking for.

I always have the great intention to spend more time outdoors when the temperature drops below zero, but don't often follow through. These boots however have tipped the scales purely because of their warmth and smaller size. A full sized boot wasn't on my wish-list, and these lower profile boots fit the bill. Their tread (with 4mm Lugs) performed very well for traction in all types of snow and icy conditions. The Polarand 8 breathes well, yet stands up to hiking across running streams.

Although at first it felt like a stiffer ski boot when I put them on, the boots were very warm and cozy. The Active Heat footbed EVA footbed, air cushioned heel and 400-gram Thinsulate insulation provided comfort during hikes and long snowshoeing excursions far surpassing trips where I know I would have turned back due to cold toes.

As an extra feature the TPU molded heel has an extra ridge for snowshoe strap compatibility.

Having a pair of boots like the Merrell Polarand 8 Waterproof will encourage you to spend more of the Winter outdoors and not shy away from it. They are very well made and will keep your feet dry and warm all day long for your outdoor adventures.
