Trail Mix: Poo-poo-ga-me Geezis
I hope to do the word justice as the Ojibwe word Poo-poo-ga-me Geezis was explained to me as "the time during Spring that breaks snowshoes". A wonderfully descriptive word which more or less infers the month of April. After a disappointing Winter due to the lack of fluffy snow, I wanted to squeeze in one last snowshoe trek.
A three hour journey North to Algonquin Park did the trick where the tree coverage is still fostering some snow... but even there there were patches of bare ground. Last year's Pine needles, rocks and roots poking through made me smile as I knew my modern snowshoes wouldn't give out under the conditions, but the description still holds true.
