Peterborough Installs Canoe Lock-Up Rings
The next time you’re portaging through Peterborough and want to stop somewhere to grab a bite to eat, why not use their new canoe lock-up rings? They are conveniently placed just outside the Visitors Centre downtown, a few blocks from the nearest outfitter, Wild Rock.
Joking aside, these portage themed bicycle racks are a great fit in a city that is the gateway to the Kawarthas where there is some excellent canoeing (Check out Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park). Just across the street a new canoe themed art installation is just beginning where artist Tia Cavanagh (an Indigenous artist) will create a canoe art project. This little park area will be called Jiimaan'ndewemgadnong (a Mizi-Zaagiing Anishinaabeg name meaning “the place where the heart of the canoe beats”).
We will bring you photos of the new art installation when it is complete but in the meantime, visit the area and try canoeing the numerous lakes and rivers and stop by the Canadian Canoe Museum (or let us know you’re coming through and we can meet up for coffee and chat about canoe routes!).
