The Friends of Temagami Hire A Resident Cartographer
Update - December 10th, 2020: On Monday December 14th at 7 p.m. EST there will be a “Meet the Map Maker Monday series” where you will be able to meet Sarah on Instagram live!
“If you have burning questions about maps, map making or for me send them over and I’ll nab them out of the DMs! You can also bring questions to ask during the live, I will try to get to as many as I can.
I thought this would be a really fun time for you to get to know me and maybe get some sneak peaks into the really awesome map series that will be dropping in the new year!
Looking forward to hanging out with you then; maybe bring snacks!”
Some exciting news was posted to the Friends of Temagami’s Facebook page today… they have hired a resident cartographer to help improve the mapping of the Temagami region! Congratulations Sarah Bencic!
The mapping project will include a set of functional canoe tripping maps based on the amazing success of our current Obabika/ Maple Mountain Companion Map. There will be a fresh new look and new exciting electronic options. We have a few very cool surprises to come as well.
Any and all proceeds from our map sales go directly back to the maintenance, promotion, and conservation of the Temagami Region. FOT is a non-profit, all volunteer based organization that has been serving the area for over 25 years. We are incredibly excited for this next venture.
As always, we will continue to assert that our FOT maps are very accurate and ground true. Our members paddle the Temagami Region extensively, and we use this experience and knowledge in the mapping process. The project will allow FOT to maintain, update in real time, and run a comprehensive data base for mapping. This will include training FOT members in the use of the software and data in the future.
The mapping project is developing incredibly well and very fast. You can look forward to the new maps becoming available early 2021, and most certainly in plenty of time for the 2021 paddling season.
We have been working very hard on this project over the last months, and it is well on the way. There are many details to be released and presented over the coming weeks/months. There will be online social media presentations, interactions, discussions, etc…
We hope you are as excited as we are about the project, the maps and the future benefits for FOT, it’s members and you! Stay tuned…
