Friend to the blog, Deryck Robertson has put the call-out for poetry and art submissions for an upcoming publication that will include some selections from all the entries. The theme of the art should be inspired by famed Canadian painter and paddler, Tom Thomson

Poetry

Poetry must relate to Tom Thomson, his life, death, or inspired by one of his paintings.

Art

Painting, sketches, mixed media, or
photography. Open to all interpretations of the Tom Thomson story.

Submission Guidelines

Please submit up to three original poems in a .docx file attached to your email. Include a third-person bio of 100 words or so. Include social media handles. Send your work to paddler@canoeideas.ca. Please use last name – submission as the subject.

Send a high quality jpg image of your art to paddler@canoeideas.ca. Please use last name-art as the submission and include a brief
discussion of the piece.

I will do my very best to get back to you as soon as I can. If you don’t hear from me within a month after submitting, give me a shout.

We are looking for poems that are not overly long, and would also enjoy and encourage micro-poetry. If you’re not sure, send it along anyway. Simultaneous submissions are fine, but let us know if your work is picked up elsewhere.

All published authors will receive a copy of the final publication. Sections of poems will also be published online leading up to July 8, 2021, which will be the official release date. Poems will be read aloud at the Tom Thomson cairn at
Canoe Lake and the Mowat Cemetery on July 8, 2021. Authors are welcome to attend and read their own work at that time.

All rights to poems will return to you after publication. All future use will be credited to the author.

Don’t bother sending any work of a sexual nature or that promotes any hate. It will be deleted.

This is all new to me. I make mistakes, so bear with me on this journey. This project is a labour of love and I’d be thrilled to have you join.

Deryck N. Robertson
