Alberta Looking To Charge Fees For Crown Land Use
The Government of Alberta is currently working through a new bill (which already passed first reading on Monday) that would allow them to charge people to access crown land.
Bill 64, the Public Lands Amendment Act proposes two options for people looking to camp on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains from Grande Prairie to Waterton Lakes National Park (you can view the map for greater detail)… either a $30 annual pass, or a three-day pass for $20.
The passes would be available for purchase:
online at albertarelm.com or AlbertaRELM mobile app
at locations that sell fishing and hunting licenses
The government says the money will be re-invested to improve visitor experiences and conserve and protect wilderness areas as well as such things as…
upgrade infrastructure
improve education
support conservation
monitor and enforce rules
promote public safety
improve environmental and waste management
If Bill 64 is passed, the Public Land Camping Pass would come into effect on June 1, 2021. Final details will be provided in the coming weeks. For more information on the bill and Crown Land camping, visit the Government of Alberta’s website.
