Gear Review: ZlideOn Zipper

I have an old MEC fleece sweater that I’ve had for ages that has been with me on countless adventures…. right until the zipper fell off and disappeared forever. I still wore it around the house, but not outdoors because without the zipper it wasn’t as effective at keeping me warm. I looked up a local tailor, brought him my sweater and asked how much it would take to fix it. To my shock, he told me that it would cost $40 plus I had to go find a new zipper myself. Needless to say the sweater spent a lot of time in my closet.

Then I found out about ZlideOn, a Swedish company that cares about repairing your gear vs. throwing it out and they created an ingenuous little zipper replacement that was the answer to my problem. If your zipper is still attached (although broken) you just have to snip it off, then you match up a replacement ZlideOn slider with the width of your existing zipper. Once you have found one that is the proper size, just bend it back to open its jaws and clamp it over the two lengths of teeth of your zipper.

It was that simple and now my sweater is back to joining me on adventures. The cherry on top? The whole repair only took a minute and cost $12.50. That’s pretty remarkable.
