Kevin Callan Takes a Group of College Kids to Algonquin's Western Uplands Backpacking Trail

Kevin Callan's latest video series takes a look at a group of College kids who he took to Algonquin Park's Western Uplands Backpacking Trail. Although they start out rambunctious, I have a feeling they will change their tune as this series progresses. Here's part 1...

The song they are singing goes something like this "Drink a beer, we like drinking beer. Drinking beer, filled with lots of drunks." Ben Teskey and myself took 16 college students out for a 7 day backpacking trip on Algonquin's Western Upland Backpacking Trail.

Update: October 23rd, 2014

Kevin has posted Part 2 and Part 3...

The trip continues into the second day. Rain, hail and cool temperatures mess with group dynamics. By the end of the day the group is split up and someone is going home.
First off - sorry for the word "lens" being spelled "lense." Not sure what I was thinking Part 3 of this college backpacking series shows how the group made a leadership decision while dealing with injuries and different levels of physical fitness.

Update: October 24th, 2014 - Here's Part 4

The group dynamics continue. In this fourth part of the college backpacking trip along Algonquin's Western Uplands Trail three more students decide to go home. Kevin also does a review on his Keen Durand boots and the students do their own review on the Instaflame fire starters.

Update: October 25th, 2014. Here's Part 5!

Things are starting to look up. The four students remaining in Kevin's group head along the eastern portion of the backpacking loop to catch up with the other students. They're a solid group, even though the weather continues to be cold and wet most of the time.

Update: October 26th, 2014. Here's Part 6

Kevin's group is getting closer to meeting the other group. Day 5 and 6 are spent hiking counterclockwise on the eastern section of the trail. It's also test time. The students have to prepare a meal and are marked on light weight, nutritious a good presentation. Kyle gets excellent marls for his meal.

Update:  October 28th, 2014 - Here's the final episode (Part 7). Head over to Explore Magazine to read Kevin's article about the series as well.

Here's the conclusion to the seven day Algonquin backpacking trip. The two groups met up on day six at Ramone Lake. There were lots of hugs and lots of singing as they hiked back to the access point the next day. It was a success. Time well spent in the woods.
