Help Get A Canoe On Our 2017 Pocket Change
To celebrate Canada's 150th Anniversary, the Royal Canadian Mint accepted submissions of what should appear on our coins. After picking some of the best suggestions, now the Mint is asking you to pick five designs from the submissions and one of the designs has a canoe on it!
"My image depicts the magnificent, rugged Canadian shield. Windblown trees rooted on a rocky shore, and a lone canoe. The elements beat against the trees but the trees stand firm. The wind invisible yet we see its effect: the trees bend, but do not break. These pines symbolize our Canadian culture: strength, tenacity, flexibility. The canoe represents our past: trade, transportation, exploration, and our present: a beloved means of discovery." - Sam Paonessa, Toronto, ON
