Check Out The New Trailhead Paddle Shack In Ottawa
Trailhead Paddle Shack has opened the doors at their brand new location in Ottawa. While I'm sure many will miss their old iconic post-and-beam building in Westboro that opened in 1991, the new store is quite stunning and spacious.
At 2148 Carling Avenue, the new location met three requirements very well.
- Accessibility. It's located off nearby traffic hubs of The Queensway (Hwy 417) and Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway
- Parking. Plenty of more parking at the new location vs. the old one
- Vicinity of previous location: They are only 7.5 min away from 1960 Scott Street
Not only does it have a lot of square footage which was an important stipulation, it is also on a single floor now allowing for an easier shopping experience. No more nooks and crannies of the old building.
The interior has a lot of visible wood including benches and tables that was all sourced from a lumber mill just outside of Tweed, Ontario. The contractor that did the work not only helped with the design, but incorporated elements from the previous location such as the 30ft hand carved Trailhead sign made by Bill Mason.
Browse around the interior and you will notice a lot of other neat little touches. The canoe that hangs above the cash was an old art project made by Reid McLachlan, and a poster of Waterwalker hangs on a nearby wall.
There are other upgrades behind the scenes such as new offices and a staff room that includes a shower for people to cycle to work, or for those who go out for paddles, then go straight to work.
Be sure to drop by the new location for camping gear, clothing, footwear, or a new canoe or kayak!
