Algonquin's Backcountry Is Closed From April To May 2021
The Friends of Algonquin announced today that Algonquin Provincial Park will be closing access to backcountry camping from April 1st until May 14th, 2021 for the spring thaw. This means no backpacking or canoe-in opportunities. This has started to become a yearly occurrence and nothing out of the ordinary.
This includes all backpacking trails and paddle-to campsites. Since all backcountry reservations must be made online (or via telephone), no first-come, first-served camping is available during this closure. Mew Lake Campground which offers developed camping remains open for reservations. However, most other developed campgrounds will not open until May 14, 2021 (or later) except for Kiosk Campground and Whitefish Group Campground. Ontario Parks is reporting that if conditions are safe they may open backcountry camping reservations earlier than scheduled.
The last night for winter backcountry camping in Algonquin Park is March 30th, 2021. Now we patiently wait for ice-out!
