Algonquin Backcountry Opens For The 2023 Season

As of 7:00 a.m. this morning, Backcountry camping in Algonquin Provincial Park has opened!

Although lakes in Algonquin Provincial Park are mostly ice free now, we are still experiencing high water levels and some access points remain inaccessible. Please exercise extreme caution and good judgement if planning an early spring trip.

Remember that shifting winds may create a navigation hazard as ice is blown around. Water temperatures remain near freezing and submersion could quickly become a life-threatening situation. Please continue to check our Alerts Page and social media channels for updates.
