CBSA Pauses Quetico Remote Area Border Crossing Program Permits
Back at the end of September the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has quietly paused any new applications (including renewals) for Remote Area Border Crossing permit. This directly affects canoeists who are travelling to Quetivo Provincial Park from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
The RABC (Remote Area Border Crossing) permit, allows the bearer to cross the Border into Canada at the above remote areas without reporting to a port of entry, as long as imported goods are declared.
While there hasn’t been much communicated, it seems that the CBSA is reviewing and updating their procedures while permit holders can still use their RABC permit at the following remote areas:
From Pigeon River through to and including Lake of the Woods
The Canadian shore of Lake Superior
Cockburn Island
Sault Ste. Marie (upper lock system)
