Watch: Vanishing Trails, 2 Months Canoeing To Hudson Bay
David & Leah Jackson have documented their two month, 1300 k.m. journey to Hudson Bay.
In 2021, Leah and I dehydrated 60 days of food and set off to paddle north for Hudson Bay. Life in so many mysterious ways lead to the trip, a mixture of photojournalism, hard travelling, and myriad expeditions led us to the idea, it's funny how that happens. We got skinny, the going was really tough but was broken up by deep satisfaction, joy, and contempt. We went up rivers and down others, across lakes and through dry creeks. Sometimes we found old trails, other times we didn't. In any case, we were where we wanted to be. We've been working to clear a back log of footage and this film was a top priority. Between power, weight, storage, and not wanting shooting to get in the way of what we were experiencing, we did our best to document an adventure story. There's no drama, no close calls, but there's a story about the land and its people, love and wild places. There's no wilderness out there, the north is alive in spirit, story, and trail. We were always in the backyard of a community, travelling along through the Nishnawbe Aski Nation, travllers on the long trail. The vid is 34mins long and the link is below. We hope you enjoy it for what it is, a glimpse into the places we find important. Thank you to those who left the trails we followed.
