Gear Review: PackTowl Personal Face

On long backcountry camping trips facecloths may not be something that you think of packing (just catch a whiff of any camper on their return trip to the car and you’ll agree). The added bulk of a facecloth along with the thought of having to manage carrying along a soggy cloth never seems appealing.

Thankfully PackTowl has a few lines of microfibre towels that are the answer to both of these problems. We’ve been packing the Face size from the Personal line (the smallest size) for about a year now and absolutely love it. It also comes in ‘Hand’, ‘Body’ and ‘Beach’ sizes.

The PackTowl Personal Face is made from a Microfiber polyester and nylon blend and the perfect size to take with you anywhere. The latest generation is also 50% recycled while still absorbing 4x its weight in water. It measures 25 cm by 35 cm (10” x 14”) and only weighs 0.02 kg (0.7 oz).

At this size and weight, there’s no excuse to not bring one with you (along with some biodegradable soap). It is incredibly soft, wrings out easily, and probably the most critical thing… dries quickly. There’s an included strap with a snap button so you can thread it through something on your backpack and just let it dangle there and dry.

You will be extremely thankful you brought it on a hot day, and whether you are sudsing up to wash your body, or simply wiping the dew from your tent, it’s tiny size and bulk makes this a must-have and must-bring on every camping trip. When you get home, just chuck it in the washing machine, no fancy laundering instructions for it. To top it off even after a year, the towel looks as good as the day I first got it.
