Therm-a-Rest Announces 'NeoLoft', A 4.6" Thick Air Mattress

Therm-a-Rest has announced the NeoLoft, a 4.6”/11.7cm thick air mattress that weighs 25oz/0.71kg providing a thick, light, plush, and compact option for backpackers.

For more than 50 years, Therm-a-Rest has been on a mission to create the most comfortable night sleep outside. NeoLoft smashed this goal and is transforming the backpack sleep experience by bringing more comfort than we thought possible to the backcountry. It’s designed to go anywhere – near or far – and never compromise your sleep. For anyone who has spent time in the backcountry, you know how important that is – the better you rest, the better you adventure.
— Brandon Bowers, Product Line Manager at Therm-a-Rest.

At 4.6 inches thick, it is the thickest backpacking pad ever offered by Therm-a-Rest, designed to provide exceptional cushioning and support. The 3D construction and ContourCore Matrix technology ensure optimal body alignment and pressure relief, while side rails enhance stability during sleep. The NeoLoft boasts a remarkable 4.7 R-value for warmth, making it suitable for a variety of climates. The stretch knit fabric is soft to the touch, and the TwinLock Valve system makes inflating and deflating a breeze. NeoLoft packs down to the size of a one-liter water bottle.

In addition to the new NeoLoft, Therm-a-Rest is expanding its camp comfort category with an updated Trail Pro and new Trail ProLight in the self-inflating category. Listening closely to the feedback and needs of its customers, Therm-a-Rest is prioritizing comfort and sustainability in spring 2025. A recent survey by the brand shows that 42% of backpackers prioritize comfort over warmth, weight, and packability when choosing a sleeping pad – values that Therm-a-Rest has amplified in its latest designs.

The updated Trail Pro and new Trail ProLite feature Stratacore foam for enhanced insulation and comfort. The new stretch knit fabric is soft to the touch and contours to the body, relieving pressure points for a more restful sleep. The fabric is solution dyed as well, reducing the amount of water used in the dying process by 4.5 (Trail Pro) to nine gallons (Trail ProLite). The lighter and more compact Trail ProLite is a comfortable two inches thick, and 24 ounces (regular). The more comfortable Trail Pro is a generous three inches thick and weighs in at 30 punches. The R-value for the Trail ProLite is 3.8 and the Trail Pro is 4.4.

The NeoLoft is set to debut along side of the updated Trail Pro and Trail ProLight in September 2024 at REI in the U.S. followed by Spring 2025 everywhere else.
