Gros Morne Backcountry Reopens (Aug 2025)
Backcountry camping at Gros Morne National Park will reopen today…
“Parks Canada has been closely monitoring the wildfire situation across the island, and access to critical emergency resources such as search and rescue teams and air support, has now improved. With these supports once again available, visitors can safely return to the backcountry.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during the closure.”
Please continue to plan ahead and be prepared before heading into the backcountry:
Be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions
Carry proper gear and navigation tools
Share your plans with someone before you leave
Follow all fire restrictions in place: campfires are not permitted during provincial fire bans
