Trail Mix: Where is the Canoe Emoji?!

In today's day and age, emoji (picture characters or pictographs that represent emotions, feelings, or activities) are prolifically used in social media as a means of conveying words without having to type them out. They are usually comically drawn by artists and sometimes can be misinterpreted due to their open-nature depiction (all part of the fun). Those that use them no doubt have been quietly gnashing their teeth as even though there is a camping and tent emoji, there is no emoji for a canoe!

Every year new Emoji are added to the full set. 67 candidates are possibilities for Unicode 9.0 in 2016 and while an avocado and bacon should be shoe-ins, the lowly canoe still has a long paddle ahead of it.

Unicode #U+1F6F6 represents a canoe, and the single factor that might help move it into the final set is the upcoming 2016 Olympics. Depending on your phone's manufacturer they might stylize it as more of an olympic style sporting canoe, but we're always hopeful that it will be a nice red Prospector (Insert winky-face emoji here).

Update: February 13th, 2016 - Good news! The canoe is being considered for release in June for Unicode 9.0.
